The MacLaurin Purdey Shooting Challenge was set up by Brian MacLaurin - a shooting enthusiast in association with James Purdey & Sons in 2004 to raise money for a number of small charities. This year all proceeds were donated to the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher in Surrey. The event is a simulated game day with each gun having the opportunity to shoot over 400 clays across the day.

The 2008 MacLaurin Purdey Shooting Trophy was hotly contested this year, held once again at Great Tew in Oxfordshire.
Eight teams fought for the honours, with the crew from the West London Shooting School keeping score on a variety of simulated stands across the magnificent estate.
The Lassman brothers, Peter and Nick, reclaimed the Trophy for the third time knocking Phil Hardy and John Millar, the 2007 winners, into third place. But it was a close run result, with Claire Zambuni and Judith Murray missing the Trophy by a single clay, and John and Phil just two points behind them.
As is customary, the organising committee also makes a presentation to the team hitting the least clays, and for the first time Robert Lewis and Lewis Watts, from the SG Hambros entry, did not collect the honours.
However, with a degree of irony, David Lewis, (son of Robert) and his partner Michael Chalcraft were presented with a computer game, entitled Hot Barrels, with the suggestion from Richard Purdey they might be more successful hitting targets using their computer mouse!
The MacLaurin Purdey Shooting Trophy is run for the enjoyment of those participating, but has the objective of raising funds for chosen charities. Once again this year a donation has been made to the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher in Surrey.
